Mission Statement


The Richards Memorial Library serves as an educational and recreational community resource. We strive to enrich lives, build community, and grow knowledge by bringing people, information, and ideas together.

The Richards Memorial library in Paxton adheres to the Library Bill of Rights in the choosing of materials and its availability to all regardless of age, gender, or nationality. About the Library

Richards Memorial Library, the public library for Paxton, Massachusetts, provides a wide range of information, materials and services to all of the people of Paxton and Massachusetts. The library offers a friendly, welcoming physical environment which encourages the civic, intellectual, and cultural pursuits of the public. The library serves as a haven for early literacy and a nurturing space for fostering a love of reading. Friends gather here, neighbors reconnect, and curiosity is satisfied with endless opportunities to discover something new.

Every day, the library opens its doors to community groups, children, families, adults, and teens, creating a vibrant atmosphere for exploration and connection.Visitors enjoy drop-in crafts, engage in social interactions, and participate in a diverse array of programs. As a beloved spot for residents to gather for events or connect by chance, the library truly embodies the spirit of community.

Our Collection

With a wide selection of books, DVDs, and STEM kits available for checkout, it enriches the learning experiences of all who visit. Our collection contains popular fiction for all ages, nonfiction, biographies, DVDs, and a large selection of children's books. The library is so much more than just a place to check out books; it’s a dynamic community hub where everyone is welcome. The library is open 34 hours per week, and many resources are available online 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

We're a CW Mars Library

Richards Memorial Library is a member of the CW Mars network and the Massachusetts Library System. The library is governed by and elected Board of Trustees. It is funded by a combination of City appropriation, endowments, and other gifts and grants.Richards Memorial Library is a member of the Massachusetts Library System and the CW MARS network of libraries in Central and Western Massachusetts.

About the Trustees

The Board of Library Trustees consists of six elected members. The Library Director is appointed by the Library Trustees, and shall serve as an ex officio member of the Board. The Trustees have the responsibility for the care, superintendence and management of the Richards Memorial Library. 

“The number of elected trustees for the Richards’s Memorial Library shall be six (6) and hereafter, they shall be elected on the official ballot."
